International Men's Day is celebrated across the world on 19 November to focus efforts to bring positive change towards the welfare of men and raise awareness of issues faced by men.
International Men's Day was inaugurated in 1992 by Thomas Oster. It was conceived a year ago.
Because of its importance, the day was revived in 1999 by Dr. Jerome Teelaksingh, lecturer in history at the University of the West Indies in Trinidad and Tobago.
The day is dedicated to speaking about the well-being and health of men, their sexual struggles and the social conditioning to which they are subjected.
It is also the day to talk about the discrimination faced by them and promise to have better gender relations. The ultimate aim of this day is to promote basic human values and awareness about men.
International Men's Day focuses on mental health, toxic masculinity, prevalence of male suicide, promoting men's health, improving gender relations, to name a few.
